5 THINGS TO SEE IN RIVA DEL GARDA

Riva del Garda

Riva del Garda is one of the most beloved towns of Lake Garda.

It is in Trentino, at the very north of the lake, where the water is crystal clean and surrounded by steep cliffs and high mountains.

Its old town centre, the perched narrow streets and picturesque glimpses have inspired dozens of poets and writers.

Believe us; these 5 things to see in Riva del Garda will inspire you too? If you are having only a weekend or a whole week for your holiday, do not miss this list of 5 magical places you will remember for a long time.

  1. Bastione. The symbol of Riva del Garda. Castled in the mountain (Monte Rocchetta), it dominates. It seems so far, the walk to reach it is short and pleasant. Leave from via Monte Oro and, after 15-20 minutes, you will find this fortress built in the sixteenth century.

  2. Varone waterfall. Little but fascinating, Varone waterfall is one of the most appreciated attractions of Riva. The waterfall is fed by the underground water leaks of the wonderful Lake Tenno that form the brook Magnone. This brook loudly falls to the gorge and creates the almost 100-meter waterfall. Do not miss a walk in the park and in the botanical garden, too!

  3. Biotope of Monte Brione. A pearl in the pearl. This mount is rich in rare vegetation. To reach its top you walk in the wood for about an hour – there are many steps. A very interesting place also for the traces of history you can find there, such as the walled works at Brione – fort San Niccolò, fort Garda, Batteria di Mezzo, fort Sant’Alessandro and a huge number of posts. This fortress was unconquerable. Fans of history, this place is for you!

  4. Torre Apponale. Built in the thirteenth century, it stands out in the middle of Piazza III Novembre. At night, its top is illuminated like a night lighthouse. If you want to reach the top, get ready and begin to walk… the view from there is unbelievable.

  5. La Rocca. Elegant and fierce, the Rocca is a symbol of the local history. It houses the prestigious MAG (Museo Alto Garda) and a wonderful park where you can relax and listen to the waves of the lake when the Ora – the wind of Garda – blows strong!
